Completed: District Health IT Officers PPP

Name: District Health IT Officers Public-Private Partnership

Duration: September 2011 – March 2015

Overview: The District Health IT Officers Public-Private Partnership is a strategic alliance that leveraged combined resources from CDC, Ministry of Health, Botho University, Botswana private sector technology university partner; and ancillary partners, Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP), Botswana Couriers & Logistics, JHPIEGO and Tebelopele Clinic; to address and mitigate the gaps in Botswana’s Health Information Systems (HIS) infrastructure that had been burdened by public health and social challenges such as a high national HIV prevalence rate.

To address these gaps the partnership trained and deployed IT intern graduates from Botho University to 28 Botswana health districts to strengthen the health information systems across health facilities to achieve the following four objectives: i) increase PPP resource inputs for the improvement of Health Information Systems (HIS) in Botswana; ii) strengthen capacity of health workers to maintain and sustain skills of the IT interns in health information systems; iii) increase IT personnel at health district facilities; and iv) strengthen functionality of IT infrastructure at the district level and facility level.
